At the start of pest season, which is usually around the beginning of March, we start to get many calls to help eliminate pests in the kitchen. Here’s a list of active kitchen pests for May and June. The Cockroach
From the dawn of time, cockroaches have likely been kitchen pests — even before we had kitchens. These ancient insects are notorious pests anywhere they can find a meal. One problem with the cockroach is that they are active at night. That means their presence may go unnoticed until their population reaches a crisis point.
Hmmm, not sure why we use the singular as there is rarely only one ant. In fact, Texas is home to over 250 native ant species, and they have probably all traipsed through the kitchen. Some of them may still be there yet. Ants are a constant problem for homeowners and commercial businesses. While many species of ants stay close to the colonies during the colder months, some may be active year-round. Those ants nesting under a home are likely to remain active because the temperature under the house is warmer than it is outside.
Flies and all that Buzzing
Flies are one of the top insects that spread disease. They also seem to be everywhere there is food. House flies and flesh flies are the worst as they regurgitate whatever they last ate whenever they land — dead things, dog poop, road kill, garbage — and you realize that all of those things are full of bacteria, germs, and other organisms that can make us sick.
