Traveling is one of the highest risks for bringing bed bugs home with you. Many hotels and motels have bed bugs, and the last thing you want is to bring these biting pests back. In this blog, we look at a couple of ways to reduce the risk of home bed bug infestations.
Never put your luggage on the floor. Always put your suitcases on the suitcase stand. Bed bugs hide during the day and will crawl around looking for a human to bite. They feed on human blood and will hide in your luggage. For this reason, always put your luggage on the luggage stand.
Don’t leave your dirty clothes on the floor or bed. For the same reason that you do not want to leave your luggage on the floor, always put your soiled clothing into a bag and into your suitcase.
Hang up your jacket in the closet. Don’t toss your jacket over a chair or lay it on the bed. Hanging it up makes it inaccessible to bedbugs. These are tiny insects with a voracious appetite for blood. They hide and will hide in clothing, beds, and other dark places until it is night. Then they creep out and hunt for a meal.
Bed Bug Prevention Returning Home From Trips
We recommend keeping all soiled clothing in a plastic bag that you can empty right into the washing machine. If you have a lot of travel laundry, empty it into the bathtub, sort it, put it in a plastic bag, and transport it to the washer in the bag.
