Holiday Pests

“T’was the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.” For most of us, that beloved Christmas poem is somewhat of an untruth – for the mice are stirring. Mice are one of the most common pests during the holidays and, sadly, for quite some time afterward, too. Many pests bug us during the holiday season. When they bug you, pester us, and we will deal with them for you. Inside, we give you our list of expected pests for the holidays.
1. Mice and Rodents
True to form, mice and rats are happy to co-mingle with you during the winter season, especially during the holidays. It’s a captivating experience to sit down to watch holiday shows and hear the mice in the tree or to find their droppings all over the kitchen. Not only are mice gross, but they also cause significant damage if not stopped.
2. Bed Bugs – The Gift from Others
Bed bugs are very much a part of the holiday season. All that holiday travel and gift-giving is a prime time for bed bugs to arrive at your house. Bed bugs spread as people move from place to place. We unwittingly bring them home with us. Traveling for the holidays brings the risk of acquiring bed bugs. Bed bugs are commonly found in many areas, including places that offer lodging, public transit, taxis at schools, and people’s homes.
Sadly, once you have brought bed bugs home with you, it isn’t easy to get rid of them. As you travel for the holidays or if you have holiday-visitors be on the lookout for bed bugs. They are small and very good at hiding.
3. The Cockroach
What would a holiday meal be without cockroaches? The meal would be much better. Cockroaches are happy to invite themselves in and eat your food. Even in a spotless house, you can find cockroaches. They migrate from one place to another, looking for food and mates. They will stay a while in a clean house, even if there is no food nor mates. It does not take much food to satisfy a cockroach. They can live for long periods without eating. Homes and businesses offer more than just a place to find a meal. The shelter is essential too. A home is heated, has access to water and often food.
